Prerequisite: Positive Attitude

Course Description

This course is an introductory level class. Training will consist of basic web page authoring skills.  We will focus on page layout and design, directory structure, and content. Web authoring skills will be used by participants to share information and/or increase communication with parents regarding student performance/progress. Teachers will post a professional web page that can include but not limited to:

Course Materials

There is no required textbook for this course. Because of the rapid advances in technology, the most accurate, up-to-date resources are found on the internet. Therefore, in lieu of purchasing a textbook, students will be expected to read assigned documents that are available on the Web. Readings and resources for this course are contained on this web site and related links.

Course Requirements

Participants will be instructed on the fundamentals of web page design including web directory structure, and the fundamentals of designing user friendly web pages. We will review the dos and don'ts of good web designing.

Participants will review and critique posted classroom web sites.

Participants will create a story board for their classroom web site.

Participants will review and become familiar with the software to be used for creating classroom web pages.

Participants will use web-authoring skills to regularly update classroom/professional web site.

Classroom/professional web pages will be posted on a web server for review and to demonstrate web site management and updating skills.

Course objectives are listed below. Other course objectives will be developed as needed to accommodate individual needs and interests.

Participants will demonstrate the fundamentals of web page design and layout.

Participants will demonstrate proficiency with directory management of web site resources.

Participants will use web-authoring skills to build, post and manage a classroom/professional web site.

Participants will update classroom/professional web site on a regular basis so that information is current and timely.

Participants will demonstrate understanding of the elements of good and poor web page design.

Participants will use web-authoring skills to post student performance/progress to increase parental involvement.

Participants will use web-authoring skills to regularly update classroom/professional web site.

Assessment

This is a Pass/Fail course. Assessment is performance based.

To complete this course:

Participants will build a classroom/professional web site.

Participants will demonstrate the ability to post their web site on a web server.

Participants will demonstrate the ability to manage and update web site.

Complete all course assignments. Written assignments will generally be submitted electronically according to instructions provided.

Arrange for access to a web server. Web server space can be acquired from your personal Internet service provider or through your school district. Additional web server options will be discussed as needed.

Participate in any on-line discussions that may be scheduled.

Classroom/professional web pages are posted for review on the Internet.

Important: You cannot complete this course without having regular access to the Internet.

Course Policies

To enroll in this course participants must have a phone interview with the instructor.

This is a course in which you are expected to play an active role as the learner.

This is a course in which you are expected to collaborate with your colleagues as necessary to learn.

This is not a competitive course.

Your objective in this course is to learn as much as possible about building and managing a classroom/professional web site.

In this course, the objective is not to "do your own work," but rather to learn as a member of a team.
